Vic: Fear derails Victorian train travellers
MELBOURNE, Feb 9 AAP - A jump in violent crime involving public transport and a growingbelief by rail travellers that they are in danger is reportedly deterring people fromusing Victorian trains.
A report in today's Sunday Age claims rapes, assaults, robberies and sex crimes rose23 per cent on public transport in 2001-02, according to the latest police statistics.
The number of public transport crimes against the person has almost doubled in fiveyears from 1173 to 2039.
