NSW: Kanaan guilty of shooting murders
SYDNEY, Aug 8 AAP - A man was today found guilty of the shooting murders of two men
outside a Sydney hotel three years ago.
A jury took just under four hours to find Michael Kanaan, 26, guilty of murdering Adam
Wright, 23, and Michael Hurle, 25, outside the Five Dock Hotel in Sydney's inner-west
on July 17, 1998.
The NSW Supreme Court jury of nine women and three men also found Kanaan guilty of
maliciously wounding Ronald Singleton, 38, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The two-week trial in the NSW Supreme Court was told Kanaan was in a car with a group
of friends who became involved in a fight with the three other men outside the hotel.
Kanaan had a pistol on the night and fired it at the men.
Kanaan had pleaded not guilty, claiming he was at home playing cards with his brother
and two friends at the time of the shooting.
He was remanded in custody for sentencing on August 31.
