NSW: Opposition urges IPART to reconsider electricity price rise

The NSW opposition says the consequences for seniors would be dire if the state government
doesn't reconsider proposed electricity price increases.

Electricity bills are expected to soar over the next three years by up to 600 dollars
a year .. after the state's Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal last month agreed
to the rises.

NSW Premier KRISTINA KENEALLY has said that the government offers rebates and vouchers
to the vulnerable to help with bill payments.

But Opposition Aging and Disability services minister ANDREW CONSTANCE says many seniors
are proud people who don't want handouts.

He says the opposition's concerned that seniors are going to die in their homes this winter.
